Support for Older People

Support for Older People

Domestic abuse can be experienced at any age, however the forms of abuse a person is likely to experience may change depending on their individual vulnerabilities.

As older people may be dependent on family members or personal care assistants to support them they frequently experience domestic abuse as neglect and mistreatment. This can mean medication or treatment is withheld or interrupted, personal hygienic care is not provided or proper wholesome food is not supplied. Older people may also be vulnerable to financial exploitation as they might not always be in control of their finances.

If you are experiencing harm through abuse or neglect or domestic abuse in any other form, you can call our confidential Referral and Advice line on 020 8317 8273. You may also want to contact a social worker, a G.P. or Police Officer. Additionally, you can see below for the details of some services which specialise in assisting older people.
