Last year in our refuges we supported 125 women escaping abuse from across the country. We offer tenancies for up to 1 year and all of our residents receive tailored support from an on-site domestic violence worker. We also have dedicated children’s worker who supports children within the refuge.
Our Substance misuse refuge provides specialist support for women who have experienced domestic abuse and are struggling with drug and alcohol addictions. Our on-site drug and alcohol specialist provides holistic support to help residents get to the root of their addictions and plan drug and alcohol free futures. Please note, currently we can only accept referrals directly from Greenwich council for this service.
Housing for Women runs a culturally specific refuge for women of Asian ethnicity. Staff in our specialist refuge understand the specific pressures and challenges facing these women with regard to immigration, modern slavery, forced marriage, ‘honour’-based violence, and female genital mutilation (FGM). Many of the women in our Asian refuge do not speak English as a first language, which contributes to their isolation in wider society. Our Asian refuge workers collectively speak 6 different languages, including Hindi, Punjabi, Urdu, Bengali and Gujarati.
